KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement investigating an armed carjacking near Kansas City have charged twin sisters
The crime occurred just before 6p.m. Tuesday on southbound Interstate 49, south at the 163rd Street exit in Belton, approximately 20 minutes south of Kansas City.
A dark blue Kia Optima occupied by three suspects rear-ended a 2022 Dodge Charger driven by a victim, who was the sole occupant.
Both drivers pulled over. While checking the rear of the Dodge Charger, one of the occupants from the Kia entered the victim’s Dodge Charger and fled the scene.
A check of the Kia Optima license plate revealed it was a stolen vehicle. Police took two into custody.
On Thursday, the Cass County Prosecutor's Office charged 19-year-old Rodnae Gorham and her sister 19-year-old Rodneysha Gorham with Accessory Vehicle Hijacking / Deadly Weapon in connection to the carjacking, according to a media release. Both defendants are being held without bond.
This is an ongoing investigation and more charges may be forthcoming.
