ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating the theft of a vehicle from a local car dealer and have made an arrest.

On March 1, a car dealer in Hiawatha reported that a 2020 Ford Escape was taken from their lot, according to, Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson.

Just after 10:30p.m. March 5, an officer spotted a 2020 blue Ford Escape traveling on North 4th Street in Atchison.

 Officers stopped the vehicle and took 42-year-old Nicholas Norton into custody. Police took Norton to the county jail on requested charges of possession of stolen property. He has previous convictions for theft and burglary, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
