SEDGWICK COUNTY— Joshua Orlando, 29, of Wichita, pleaded guilty Wednesday to Felony First Degree Murder and Aggravated Kidnapping in connection with the April 17, 2026, murder of Ivy Unruh, according to a media release from the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

The plea was entered in Sedgwick County District Court before Judge Jeffrey Goering.

Just after 8 a.m. April 17, police were dispatched to a reported shooting at 7272 E. 37th Street in Wichita, according to a media release. When officers arrived, they found Ivy Unruh near Building 5 with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers also recovered a firearm at the scene.

Unruh was taken to a local hospital in grave condition and died three days later.

Joshua Orlando, who was married to but separated from Unruh, was taken into custody at the scene. He was transported to the Wichita Police Investigations Bureau for an interview and later booked into the Sedgwick County Jail where he was held on a bond of $1,500,000.00, according to online jail records. On April 22, Orlando was charged with premeditated first-degree murder.

Orlando is scheduled to be sentenced on August 28, 2026. He faces a minimum of 38.75 years in the Kansas Department of Corrections before he becomes eligible for parole.
