DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement are working to locate the owner of a piece of luggage found with a substantial cache of illegal drugs.
On Wednesday evening Lawrence Police K9 Shadow, a highly trained dual-purpose patrol dog and his handler were engaged in a routine security sweep at a local transportation facility, according to a media release from the Lawrence Police Department. Shadow indicated to the presence of illegal drugs in a piece of luggage.
Upon inspection, officers located 33.08 pounds of methamphetamines and 1.26 pounds of cocaine.
Investigators will be forwarding the seized substances to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) laboratory for comprehensive testing to determine if fentanyl is contained within the drugs.
Unsurprisingly, no one claimed the luggage in question. No one has been taken into custody, but investigators are working to identify the owner. The investigation remains ongoing.
