KANSAS CITY —One person died in an accident just before noon Thursday in Kansas City.
A Ford Focus was northbound on Troost near 51st Street at a high rate of speed. The car struck a pedestrian operating an HYB15 motorized scooter, crossing Troost from east to west, according to KCPD Captain Jake Becchina.
The pedestrian was in the middle of the roadway and within an unmarked cross walk at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Ford stopped immediately and remained at the scene. EMS transported the pedestrian to a local hospital and they were pronounced deceased.
The investigation, to include suspected impairment of the driver of the Ford, is ongoing, according to Becchina. The name of the victim has not been released. This is fatality #71 compared to #67 at this time last year in Kansas City, Missouri.
