PHILLIPS COUNTY—One person died in an accident just after 2:30a.m. Sunday in Phillips County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2012 Dodge Ram driven by Nicholas Barton Shaffer, 23, Kensington, was eastbound on U.S. 36 four miles west of Kansas 248.
The pickup veered right, entered the south ditch, continued eastbound in the south ditch, ramped a field entrance, went airborne and landed on the south shoulder of U.S. 36.
The pickup turned sideways and rolled into the south ditch facing southwest.
Shaffer was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
