Kan. teacher of the year nominee accused of sex with student

BUTLER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas teacher on sex crime allegations.

Just after 10p.m. Thursday, 39-year-old Jelinda Keeling was booked into the Butler County jail, according to online jail records.  Keeling is being held on requested charges of unlawful sexual relations: Teacher with Student 16+, according to jail staff.

Keeling is an algebra, geometry teacher in USD 490 El Dorado, according to her online profile. In 2022 she was named district teacher of the year and in 2024 she was nominated for Kansas Teacher of the year, according to the El Dorado High School web site.  The school wrote,"It has been an honor to celebrate EHS Teacher Jelinda Keeling as USD 490's nominee for 2024 Kansas Teacher of the Year. Thank you for being such an amazing teacher and #PartOfThePride!"  No bond is listed for her, according to online jail records.
