🏈Manhattan runs over Hays in battle of ranked teams

MANHATTAN - A 21 point second quarter propelled #3-6A Manhattan to a 49-7 victory over #3-5A Hays Friday night at Bishop Stadium.

Manhattan scored on the first drive with a 33 yard run and then added a second score on a three yard dive resulting in a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Hays High's Carter Graham went over top of the defense to Jarek Purdy for 78 yards and six points to answer. Trailing 14-7 the Indians' defense forced a three and out on a Wyatt Kirkpatrick and Slade Salmans combo sack.

Hays drove near the red zone but a tipped pass resulted in an interception. Manhattan went 78 yards on eight plays to take a 21-7 lead. They again scored following an interception right before half for a 28-7 advantage.

Manhattan continued to push the score in their favor with three second half touchdown runs. They were stopped on one drive on an interception by Cooper Lindenmeyer, his third of the season.

Manhattan piled up 494 yards of offense. Hays totaled just 188.

Hays drops to 2-1 on the season. Manhattan is 3-0 and has won a school record 16 consecutive games. Two of those against the Indians.
