KHP reports 3rd fatal pedestrian accident on Kan. highway in 24-hours

JOHNSON COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 4:30a.m. Saturday in Johnson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2014 Volvo semi driven by  Eskender Mengesha, 35, Dallas, TX, was  southbound on Interstate 35 at 95th Street in Lenexa in the right lane.

A pedestrian identified as Justin Valentine, 33, Overland Park, ran westbound across Interstate 35 and struck the semi.

Valentine was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Frontier Forensics.

Mengesha was not injured and properly restrained at the time of the accident.

This is the third fatal pedestrian accident on a Kansas road in the past 24-hours. On Friday, two pedestrians died in accidents on Interstate 635 in Wyandotte County. 

The KHP reported a Jeep struck a Kansas woman walking in the number two lane south of Parallel Avenue at 3:30a.m.   Lashonda Denice  Ikerd, 34, Kansas City, Kansas, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Just after 10p.m., a Chevy Cobalt traveling northbound on Interstate 635 in the middle lane struck a pedestrian identified as Frank E. Clark III, 49, Kansas City, Kansas, who was running across the roadway. He was transported to KU Medical Center where he died, according to the KHP.
