WYANDOTTE COUNTY —A wanted Kansas man died in an accident during a police chase just before 1a.m. Wednesday in Wyandotte County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2009 Pontiac G8 driven by Juan Carlos Marquez, 22, Lawrence, was eastbound on Loring Lane at Stillwell Road at a high rate of speed while eluding Bonner Springs Police Department.  Police said the car reached speeds up to 114 mph in a 45 mph zone before losing control of the car.

 The vehicle went into a spin and struck a speed limit sign. After impact the vehicle continued in a backwards direction and struck a tree.

EMS transported Marquez to KU Medical Center where he died.  EMS transported a passenger Alejandra Diaz, 18, Bonner Springs, to Overland Park Regional Medical Center.  They were not wearing seat belts, according to the KHP.
