NEOSHO COUNTY—Two people were injured in a small plane accident just before 3p.m. Thursday in Neosho County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2020 Cirrus SR 22 Turbo, Fixed wing Single engine aircraft piloted by John Von Fange, 43, South Carolina, lost engine function southwest of Chanute. The pilot attempted to land at the Chanute Airport.
Due to cloud cover, the pilot missed the approach and diverted to land in a field. The airplane went into a nose dive east of U.S. 169, landing on its top and started to slide northbound. The airplane flipped back upright while sliding.
A passing driver traveled through a fence out into the field and stopped the airplane with a truck . A gust of wind caught the parachute causing the plane to flip over the vehicle, dragging the plane westbound back over U.S. 169. The plane came to rest in a tree row just west of U.S. 169 and 240th Road.
EMS transported Von Fange and a passenger identified as Tuck Duck, 35, Kannapolis, North Carolina, to the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.
