LYON COUNTY —Law enforcement and USD 253 officials are investigating an alleged school threat and have increased police presence at schools in Emporia.
Just after 7p.m. Wednesday, the Emporia Police Department was notified of a possible threat to the Emporia Middle School, according to Police Captain Ray Mattas
It was reported that a student, in an email, had threatened to bring a gun to school on Thursday and was warning other students not to attend school that day.
Officers located the student making the threats. It was determined the student did not have access to any firearms and no students were at risk.
The case will be referred to the Lyon County Attorney’s Office for their review.
USD 253 was informed of the threats, and it was decided that the Emporia Police Department would be present at Emporia Middle School to provide reassurance to parents, students, and staff regarding their safety.
