Police find 31 packages of pot in Kan. man's SUV

SALINE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on drug charges after a traffic stop in Salina.

Just before midnight Monday, a patrol officer stopped a 2002 GMC Yukon in the 500 block of North Ninth Street for having an obstructed license plate, which was behind the rear tinted window out of view, according to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester.

When the officer made contact with the driver, Jonathan Brehon, 33, of Topeka, he noticed the odor of burnt marijuana and conducted a DUI investigation.

A search of the vehicle produced 31 packages of marijuana, two baggies of methamphetamine, with no drug tax stamp affixed to any of the narcotics, according to Forrester.

Officers arrested Brehon was arrested on requested charges, of distribution of a stimulant, distribution of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, no drug tax stamp, possession of illegal transaction proceeds, driving under the influence, obstructed license plate, driving while suspended and no proof of insurance.

Brehon has previous convictions for theft and drugs in Saline County, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.
