SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for alleged child sex crimes.

On Sept. 23, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding the online solicitation of a child by an adult male suspect, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

Just before 3p.m. Thursday, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division apprehended one man later identified as 43-year-old Jason S. Sandberg of Topeka, who attempted to coerce an individual, whom he believed to be a 15-year-old girl, to engage in sexual acts.

Deputies arrested Sandberg and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charged of electronic solicitation and sexual exploitation.

Sandberg has a previous conviction for electronic solicitation, according to the Kan. Dept. of Corrections.
