SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a  shooting and have made an arrest.

Just after 9 p.m.  July 1, police responded to a shooting call in the 1800 block of North Amidon in Wichita after a 36-year-old man flagged down a motorist and reported being shot, according to officer Charley Davidson.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, who had a single gunshot wound to his abdomen.  He was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment of a serious but non-life-threatening injury.

The investigation revealed the victim and the suspect later identified as 40-year-old Michael Howard are known to each other, were in the area of 1800 north Amidon, and got into an argument over money and drugs.

During the argument, Howard pulled out a handgun and fired one shot that struck the victim.

Investigators determined Howard was involved in the incident and on Wednesday, police contacted him in the 900 block of North Main and arrested without incident.

This was not a random incident.  Additionally, Howard has been previously arrested and convicted on charges that include aggravated battery, criminal damage to property,  and criminal possession of a weapon.  Howard is currently on community corrections through the Kansas Department of Corrections.
