The Wabaunsee girl's basketball team will open sub-state play with a familiar foe on Tuesday when they travel to St. Mary's for a rematch with the Lady Bears.
The Lady Chargers come into bracket play as the 7-seed at 4-16 while the Lady Bears enter as the 2-seed at 9-11, having won four of their last five games.
As league rivals, these two squared off twice already this season, with St. Mary's getting the better of the Chargers 42-22 in early January and 51-32 just over a week ago.
Despite this series' history, Wabaunsee is more than up for the challenge and will look to prove just how hard it is to beat a team three times in one year when the two take the floor on Tuesday night.
"St Mary’s is a well-coached and balanced team," Lady Charger head coach Trevor Keller said. "We are looking forward to an opportunity to compete against a league opponent in the first round. It will be crucial for us to rebound at a high rate and limit their transition scoring opportunities."
The winner of this contest will advance to the bracket semifinals to take on either the 3-seed in KC Christian (8-12) or the 6-seed in Maranatha Christian (4-14).
On the other side of the bracket the top seed in Mission Valley (16-4) will host Oskaloosa (3-17) who pulled the upset in the play-in game over McClouth on Saturday.
The victor of that game will take a spot in the other semifinal and await the winner of Lyndon (8-12) and Cair Paravel (7-13).
Tip-off between the Lady Chargers and Bears is scheduled for 7:00 at St. Mary's High School.
