RILEY COUNTY —A Manhattan man is confined to the Riley County Jail after a January 8 altercation at an apartment complex near downtown.

Benjamin Ira James Lewis, 39, was arrested Saturday afternoon near Ninth Street and Humboldt in Manhattan.

A little after 4 p.m., a group of people flagged down a Riley County police officer who happened to be driving through a nearby alleyway. The people said a man was inside an apartment threatening people with a knife.

According to reports, several RCPD officers responded to the scene. After they made their way inside officers were eventually able to subdue the uncooperative suspect.

Lewis allegedly cut a 58-year-old male on the cheek and threatened two other people with the knife. The 58-year-old victim was seen by EMS but did not require transport.

Lewis was arrested for aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and interference with a law enforcement officer.

He is currently confined in the Riley County Jail on a bond of $21,000.
