
CLAY COUNTY, MO —Authorities are investigating the cause of a fatal house fire in a Kansas City suburb.
Just before 6:30p.m. Wednesday, the Platte County Dispatch Center received a report of an explosion and residential fire in the 300 block of East Meadow Street., according to Chief Jason Lockridge.
Smithville Police Officers arrived on scene within two minutes and found the home fully engulfed in flames.
Fire crews from the Smithville Area Fire Protection District responded, along with mutual aid from Kearney Fire District, Central Platte Fire, Camden Point Fire, Edgerton-Trimble Fire, and the Northland Regional Ambulance District (NRAD). Spire Gas and Evergy responded to the scene as well, to address utility concerns.
During firefighting efforts, one deceased individual was located inside the home. No additional victims are believed to be involved.
Fire crews remained on scene to extinguish remaining hot spots. The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office is in charge of the investigation.
