KANSAS CITY —Investigators are working to determine the cause an apartment fire in Kansas City.
Just before 7a.m. Monday, crews responded to a reported apartment fire in the 3800 block of E. 12th Terrace in Kansas City, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.
On arrival crews reported heavy fire and smoke from a vacant two-story apartment.
Due to the nearness of the structure to the south and a partial collapse of the original structure, fire spread to the adjacent home to the east.
A third home to the east also sustained smoke and water damage. One firefighter was transported for injuries sustained during a slip and fall due to the icy conditions.
Red Cross was ordered for five adults. Dangerous buildings were ordered. The cause of the fire will be investigated by KCFD. Due to the extensive damage an exact cause may be difficult to determine.
