MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. – The portion of the McConnell Frontiers in Flight Airshow for Sunday has been cancelled, according to a statement from the air base.
A slow-moving storm brought wind gusts in excess of 50mph to the McConnell flightline. Because of damage to services, we are unable to execute a safe airshow.
The pyrotechnics planned for use in Sunday's airshow will be detonated by McConnell’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, between noon and 4 p.m.
There will be multiple detonations planned and those will sound louder than normal, with the low cloud coverage potentially reflecting the sound.
"While we apologize for this late cancellation and regret having to make this decision, Safety is always our first priority at McConnell, especially when it comes to hosting the public for an airshow."
