For a second straight season Kansas State has defeated the Oklahoma Sooners. Trailing 35-14 in the third quarter the Wildcats scored 24 unanswered points to defeat the Sooners 38-35.
With his team training 21-7 at halftime, Coach Chris Klieman challenged his team. "Knew we could play better, knew we could finish."
A key play in the rally came when the Wildcats blocked a punt. "We really thought if we could get those guys off the field once we had a chance to block a punt, we were only going to get one shot at it but we thought we could get a block and we were going to come after it. Then it was the right time, we were able to get the block. "
AJ Parker blocked a fourth quarter punt and a short time later with 8:17 remaining in the game Deuce Vaughn rambled 38 yards for a score. With the PAT by Blake Lynch Kansas State tied the game at 35-35.
The winning points came on a 50-yard field goal by Blake Lynch with 4:32 remaining in the contest.
Skyler Thompson was 18-25 passing for 334 yards and a touchdown while Deuce Vaughn rushed for 51 yards and a score and caught four passes for 129 yards including a 77-yard reception and run.
Kansas State ( 1-1 ) is scheduled to Texas Tech on Oct. 3. Oklahoma ( 1-1 ) is scheduled to play at Iowa State on Oct. 3.
