Fort Riley hosts the Fallen Hero Run at 9:11 a.m. on Sept. 12 to honor and remember military members who have made the ultimate sacrifice in support and defense of the United States.
The untimed two-mile run, which starts and ends at Riley's Community Center, is free and open to the public. Runners can pre-register at Whitside Fitness Center prior to Saturday or register at the event site from 8 - 9 a.m. The Fallen Hero Run is pet and stroller friendly. A display of decorated combat boots will line a portion of the run route to commemorate those who have died in service to their country. To learn more about displaying a boot in memory of a fallen service member, call 785-239-0630.
Visitors to Fort Riley who don't have a Department of Defense ID card will need to stop by the Henry Gate visitor center to get a pass. DoD ID cardholders are considered Trusted Travelers and may vouch for up to seven other people in their vehicle. Participants must come from within 150 miles of Fort Riley.
