Aaron Gerdes hit a home run over the left centerfield fence in the bottom of the 8th inning to help the Junction City Brigade defeat the Topeka Farmers 3-2 in game one of their Cowdin Cup postseason semifinal round playoff series.
Gerdes said he hit a first-pitch fastball. "I stayed inside, stuck with what I know, saw the ball flying. I knew right away it was gone. "
Junction City trailed early in the contest 2-0 but battled back to tie it 2-2. Gerdes then hit his home run.
The teams play Saturday night in Topeka. If the Brigade win they will advance to the Cowdin Cup championship finals. If Topeka wins there would be a third and final game in the series Sunday evening at Rathert Field at 7 p.m.
