Pilot walked to Kan. farm house after crop duster crash, fire

JACKSON COUNTY —A crop duster pilot survived a crash and fire just after 12:30p.m. Monday in Jackson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1973 Botzko HP11-15 piloted by David Brocklehurst,  49, Vernon, Texas, was flying northbound one half miles west of the Atchison County line. The aircraft struck a communication pole while flying about 100 feet in air and landed near K-9 Highway west of Allen Road two miles east of Whiting.

The plane caught fire and Brocklehurst was able to walk to a farm house for help, according to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse. He did not have any serious injuries.

Netawaka and Whiting fire responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. Jackson County EMS and KHP also responded to the scene. The FAA and NTSB will investigate the accident.
