PRATT COUNTY –Authorities are investigating a fatal fire in Pratt.
Just before 8:30a.m. Monday, fire crews responded to a duplex fire at 601 N. Oak Street in Pratt, according to a media release.
The Kansas State Fire Marshal (KSFM) Investigation Division was called to assist in the investigations of the fire.
Investigators determined the fire originated and contained to the kitchen with smoke damage throughout. The structure is a duplex with the other half suffering light smoke damage. The occupants of the other side of the duplex were able to escape safely without injury.
The victim is identified as Marjorie Meis, 67, the sole occupant. A pet dog also perished in the fire. The fire is still under investigation pending autopsy results.
