Police ID victim in fatal drive-by shooting in Wellington

SUMNER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal shooting in Wellington have identified the victim as Travis A. Schneider, 34, of Wellington, according to Police Chief Tracy Heath.

A 1:43p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a shooting in the 800 block of East 16th Street in Wellington, according Police Captain Paul Nefzger.

Upon arrival officers found Schneider who had been shot in the chest. He died at the scene.

According to Nefzger, investigators determined two vehicle were  westbound on 16th Street when someone in a car shot at the pickup and hit Schneider.

After visiting with witnesses, police had one suspect in custody Wednesday evening, according to Nefzger.

 Walter Edward Taylor, 21, is being held without bond on a requested charge of second-degree murder, according to online jail records in Sumner County.  Formal charges in the case are expected Friday afternoon, according to Nefzger.

Officers continue to question others and have received videos from citizens to assist with the investigation, according to Nefzger.
