Hearing delayed for Kansas Labor Day robbery, killing

SEDGWICK COUNTY — A suspect accused in a deadly Labor Day weekend robbery, killing was due back in court Monday.

Lafayette J. Washington's  preliminary hearing in Judge Jeffrey Goering's courtroom was moved to February, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.  

In September, Washington was charged with First degree murder, theft of property and criminal possession of a firearm in the shooting death of 23-year-old D’Andre Rubio of Wichita, according to a media release from Wichita Police.

The shooting occurred  just after 1:30 a.m. September 1, in the 100 block of Rock Island in Wichita. Officers arrived and found Rubio suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Detectives have learned that a disturbance took place before the shooting. 

Washinton is being held on bond of over $1 million dollars.
