KANSAS CITY (AP) — The arrival of the longtime Indians slugger Carlos Santana and young Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi in Kansas City filled out a roster that could be sneaky good as the Royals attempt to build on the big step forward they took during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. Santana brings some much needed on-base ability along with a bit of power, and Benintendi combines championship pedigree with decent plate discipline and excellent fielding ability as the replacement for retired outfielder Alex Gordon. And that has manager Mike Matheny excited about the start of full-squad workouts.
