BARTON COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 3p.m. Thursday in Barton County.
According to Sheriff Brian Bellendir, a 1993 Ford Ranger driven by 84-year-old Ronald Kelly of Ellinwood was eastbound in the 900 block of E. Barton County Road just east of the junction of U.S. 56.
The pickup left the roadway, struck a farm driveway, became airborne, vaulted over the drive, landed in the field on the other side and overturned.
Kelly was trapped in the vehicle. Personnel from the Ellinwood Fire Department and EMS Service extracted him from the vehicle and transported him to Ellinwood District Hospital. He was then flown to a Wichita area hospital where he died, according to Bellendir.
Kelly was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the possibility the driver had a medical incident prior to the collision.
