HUTCHINSON — Formal charges have been brought against a Hutchinson man arrested after packages containing 40 pounds of marijuana were intercepted in the mail.

Luis Gutierrez is charged with possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute.

Gutierrez was arrested last week after members of the Reno County Criminal Interdiction Unit along with members of the United States Postal Service Inspectors Division, Hutchinson Police Department's Special Operations Unit, and South Hutchinson Police Department executed two drug-related search warrants simultaneously at two neighboring houses in the south part of Hutchinson as part of a controlled delivery.

Approximately 40 pounds of marijuana was seized from the two residences. Gutierrez remains jailed on a bond of $270,000. He is also due back in court Friday, Aug. 6, on a motion on a community corrections violation from a case back in 2019.
