Woman critically injured in Kansas apartment building fire

SALINE COUNTY —One person was injured in an a Tuesday fire in Salina.

Just after 9a.m. Tuesday, fire crews were dispatched to the Country Hills Apartments at East Crawford Street and Fairdale Road in Salina for the report of a fire at the complex, according to Salina Fire Marshal Troy Long.

The blaze started in the ground floor apartment at the north end of the complex and spread to the apartment above. The ground level apartment was destroyed and the deck and part of the second-floor apartment were damaged.

Seven people were able to escape the fire, however one of them, a woman, suffered burns and an injury sustained on the way out of the building, according to Long. EMS transported her to a Wichita hospital burn unit. Her name was not released. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
