KANSAS CITY —One person died in an accident just before 5p.m. Tuesday in Kansas City.
A Harley Davidson “Fat Boy” Motorcycle was northbound on Interstate 435, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.
At Blue Parkway, the driver failed to negotiate the curvature in the roadway. The motorcycle traveled off the roadway to the left and down the grassy median that separates the northbound lanes of Interstate 435 from the southbound lanes.
The motorcycle struck the inside portion of the southbound Interstate 435 guardrail and the driver was ejected.
The operator of the motorcycle who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to DiMartino. Debris from the motorcycle struck a Toyota Camry and a Subaru BRZ that were both traveling southbound on Interstate 435.
The driver of the Toyota and the driver of the Subaru were not injured in the collision. Multiple lanes of southbound I-435 were closed to traffic for approximately three hours. This is fatality #68 compared to fatality #65 at this time last year, according to DiMartino. The name of the victim has not been released.
