SUMNER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting.

On Friday afternoon, the Kansas Turnpike Authorities notified the Oklahoma Highway Patrol that a bank robbery suspect was southbound on Interstate 35, according to a statement from the Patrol.

A Port of Entry officer saw a vehicle enter Oklahoma that matched the description of the robbery suspect’s vehicle.

A trooper located the vehicle and a short pursuit ensued. During that pursuit, the suspect fired at troopers, who also fired back. The suspect fled on foot in the area of Interstate 35 and Highway 412.

There was another exchange of gunfire. The suspect is deceased. No troopers were harmed. Authorities have not released the name of the suspect or additional details.
