SHAWNEE COUNTY—A fire did thousands of dollars in damage to a Kansas home on Friday.
Just after 2a.m., firefighters responded to a reported house fire located at 2619 SW Randolph Court in Topeka, according to department spokesperson Rosie Nichols. Crews found smoke and flames coming from the back of a two-story house and were able to extinguish it.
Investigators determined the cause of the fire was accidental, most likely related to the careless discarding of smoking materials.
The total estimated loss was approximately $50,000, which is associated with structural loss. Working smoke detectors were located in the house. No injuries were reported.
