
SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement investigating a series of business burglaries over the past several months in northeast Kansas have made an arrest.
The burglaries targeted at least eight Topeka owned businesses starting in the Fall 2025 through April 2, 2026, according to a media release from police. As a result of their investigation, police arrested Eric D. Swopes, 52, of Topeka.
The following Topeka businesses were involved in the alleged crimes.
Yolk House; Circle Coffee; Milk and Honey (attempted burglary); Crispy & Co / Hanebe; Golden Dragon; Indian Bistro; Mexican Taco Shop and El Ranchito
Swopes was transported to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections and is being held on requested charges related to burglary and attempted burglary. Additional charges may be filed pending review by the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office.
It is believed that Swopes may be involved in more cases in Topeka and surrounding communities.
