Major General D.A. Sims updated 2021 deployments from the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley during the Military Affairs Council breakfast Thursday in Junction City.

Sims explained the 1st Brigade Combat Team is preparing for a deployment to Europe toward the latter part of next summer. He addressed the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade plans as well. "They will leave over the course of the next 45 days heading to Europe." One battalion from that brigade is going to Korea. Those are nine month deployments.

Sims noted that the Sustainment Brigade has providing COVID-19 relief support at locations across the country, and the Division Headquarters will prepare to send what he termed of their troops to Europe this summer. The headquarters unit will be deploying for one year.

The Second Brigade Combat Team returned to Fort Riley this past November. The vast majority of the division was at Fort Riley during the Christmas holidays.
