KANSAS CITY —A military explosive was found in a Kansas City area home this week.
Just after 11:30a.m. Monday, police and fire dispatchers received a call from a concerned citizen who discovered what he believed to be a live, military explosive, according to a social media report from the Independence police department.
The device was discovered in the home of the caller’s father and is believed to be a mortar shell from the Korean War.
The Independence Department Bomb Squad confirmed that the ordnance was live and contacted officials from Whitman Air Force Base who disposed of the device. There were no injuries reported.
