SHAWNEE COUNTY—It took a team effort but two women, stranded for two days on sandbar in the Kansas river, are recovering after they were rescued.
Just after 9.m. Monday, the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from two women stranded on a sandbar in the Kansas River, according to a media release from the Shawnee County Sheriff.
The woman had their boat but they were unable to fight the strong river current. The women had been beached since the day before. Deputies responded, deployed a drone and used various technology to locate the stranded women.
The Topeka Fire Department, Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks, Silver Lake Fire Department and the Mission Township Fire Department assisted. A boat was utilized and the women were rescued and brought back to safety unharmed.
