SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged sexual assault involving a teen runaway and have a suspect in custody.
Just before 1a.m. May 22, police responded to a rape report in the 1800 block of W. Pine Avenue in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.
A minor female who ran to that location and reported to a citizen that she had been sexually assaulted.
The investigation revealed that the juvenile ran from her foster home earlier in the day around noon.
A suspect identified 26-year-old Gerardo Aguero-Hernandez contacted her as she walked along North Broadway and offered her a ride. She accepted, but instead of being taken to the agreed-upon location, Aguero-Hernandez drove her to an area near Arthur B. Sim Park. While in the vehicle, Aguero-Hernandez sexually assaulted and battered the girl, according to Davidson. She was able to escape the vehicle and ran to contact a citizen who called 911.
Through further investigation, Aguero-Hernandez was identified subsequently arrested from a residence in the 2400 block of N. Woodland in Wichita.
He is being held on a requested charge of Rape, Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated battery, and an outstanding city of Wichita Warrant. He is being held on a $200,000 bond, according to online jail records.
