2 Kan. women dead, 4 hospitalized after head-on crash

LABETTE COUNTY — Two people died in an accident just after 10p.m. Thursday in Labette County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr driven by Matayea R. Lomax, 20, Pittsburg, was westbound on U.S. 400  six miles west of U.S. 59.

The car crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a 2016 Chevy Malibu driven by  Smith, Melinda M. Smith, Neodesha, head-on. 

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Frontier Forensics.

EMS transported Lomax and passengers in the Chevy Wilfredo Mai, 31; Stetson Ringle, 4; Kimber Ringle, 7, and Cailen Ringle, 8, all of Neodesha, to Labette County Medical Center where Lomax died.

A passenger in the Lincoln Eliana Gonzales, 19, Pittsburg, was not injured. All seven were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
