Kan. man on streetsweeper crew hospitalized after thrown into canal

SEDGWICK COUNTY— One person was injured in an accident just after 8:30p.m. Wednesday in Sedgwick County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Freightliner semi driven by Stephen W. Gaskins, 44, Worthington, MN., was northbound on Interstate 135 in central Wichita.

The semi struck a Ford F750 working on the shoulder. The impact pushed the truck into an FL70 streetsweeper.

DeCarlo L Bell, 31, Wichita, was outside the vehicles and thrown into the canal, according to a social media report from the Wichita Fire Department.

Crews worked to remove Bell  from the canal and he was transported to Wesley Medical Center.  Gaskins and another member of the streetsweeper crew Jim R. Turner, 62, Wichita, were not injured.
