BUTLER COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a case of alleged sexual battery involving a city administrator in Kansas.

Charles Hefton, 49, the city administrator of the small rural Butler County community of Benton is due in court February 26 on requested charges of sexual battery, according to the Butler County attorney's office.

A couple of months ago, a part time employee who works for the city reported inappropriate touching involving Hefton to the police chief, according to Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet.

The police chief asked the sheriff's department to take over the investigation. After forwarding  the results of the investigation to the county attorney, a warrant was issued and deputies arrested Hefton Monday.

He bonded out of jail and is on leave from his responsibilities with the city. Hefton was chief of police for the city and has been in the community for a number of years, according to Herzet.
