MANHATTAN, Kan. — Coming off of K-State's first win of the 2020 season on Monday night, there was talk of a winning streak among the Wildcat locker room, but Saturday night inside Bramlage Coliseum the UNLV Runnin' Rebels would get the better of Kansas State.
K-State out-rebounded UNLV in the contest 32-30 and committed four less turnovers than the Rebels, but shooting was the big story on the night.
UNLV shot 52% from the floor and 12/27 from 3-point range (44%), while Kansas State could only muster 36% from the floor and 29% from three (7/24).
Maize, Kansas native Caleb Grill played a large role for UNLV, scoring 12 points and tallying four rebounds in the effort.
Kansas State was lead in scoring by Senior Mike McGuirl with 17, followed by nine from both Sophomore Dajuan Gordon and Freshman Nijel Pack.
UNLV's leading scorer coming into the contest, Bryce Hamilton, would score 18 for Head Coach T.J. Otzelberger, but the real show would come from David Jenkins Jr., who lead all scorers in the contest with 25 points and seven three pointers.
The 68-58 win for UNLV was their first of the season, stopping a four-game skid to start the year for the Rebels. Kansas State now falls to 1-3 on the season and is scheduled to play at home against Milwaukee on Friday night, December 11; however, in postgame, Bruce Weber hinted that the Wildcats were trying to schedule a game with Fort Hays State on Tuesday night, but nothing has been finalized to this point.
