Kansas man accused of using SUV as a weapon outside club

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating  a man for an alleged violent attack using his SUV.

Just before 11p.m. August 11,  deputies responded to Club Rodeo, 3426 E MacArthur Road in Wichita, according to Sheriff's Lt. Benjamin Blick.

Investigators learned a man in a GMC Acadia struck several vehicle, two bouncers and a woman. The woman left prior to law enforcement arriving on scene. 

The suspect vehicle then backed up and struck a support post holding up an awning which caused it to collapse, according to Blick .

The suspect driver then left the parking lot eastbound on MacArthur and abandoned the vehicle when the SUV was blocked by a train at Kansas 15 Highway.

According to Blick, the incident began when the suspect  driver later identified as 42-year-old Jason Beard of Wichita had an altercation with a woman in the parking lot.

On Monday,  detectives arrested Beard on requested charges of Aggravated Assault, Criminal Damage to Property and Failing to Stop at the Scene of an Injury Accident.

Nobody was seriously injured. The damages were in excess of $75,000, according to the sheriff's office.  He is no longer in custody, according to online jail records.
