SALINE COUNTY — Police are investigating an online rental scam in Salina.

On Friday, police took a report of a subject who had been scammed out of $1080 in a Facebook, house rental scam, according to Salina Police Captain James Feldman.

The victim reported responding to a “Houses for rent” post on Facebook. The victim began communicating through Facebook with an unknown suspect to rent a house in Salina beginning on 10/14/2026. The victim initially sent $80 for an “application fee” and then later sent $300 and then $700 for rent.

The victim had never been in the residence. The victim was never provided a phone number or address for the owner of the rental. The victim was able to identify the company which owned the property and when that company was contacted they advised the property had not been advertised for rent.

The Salina Police Department reminds you to be very cautious when responding to ads on-line and do not send money electronically. Do not commit to renting residences without being able to physically inspect the property. Remember to research the company you are dealing and do not provide any personal information without knowing who you are dealing with.
