Police: Kansas man accused of wife's murder

DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a murder in Lawrence have identified the victim as  25-year-old Regan Noelle Marek Gibbs of Lawrence, according to  police spokesperson Kim L. Murphree.

Detectives with the Lawrence Police Department (LPD) worked through the night and continue to investigate the murder.

Just before 7:30p.m. Monday, police responded to a home in the 2500 Block of West 6th Street where the victim lived.

The suspect identified as 26-year old Chad Joseph Marek, of Lawrence also lived at the home and was the victim's husband, according to Police Chief Rich Lockhart.

Police arrested him at the scene on a requested charge of murder, according to Murphree. Domestic violence is being investigated as a contributing factor. An Affidavit was prepared by police detectives and has been sent to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Just before 7:30p.m. Monday, police responded to a north-central Lawrence home, according to police spokesperson Kim L. Murphree.

Officers encountered a 26-year-old suspect and a woman with critical injuries. First responders pronounced her deceased at the scene. Police arrested the man on suspicion of murder, according to Murphree.

The man and victim were known to each other.  Police have not released names of the suspect or victim.
