2nd semi hauling wind turbine tower lost load in Kansas

WICHITA COUNTY —For the second time this week, a semi hauling a section of wind turbine tower lost its load and the incident shut down the roadway.

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas 96 near Leoti in Wichita County was reduced to one lane due to an oversized load rollover.  KDOT had crews on-site flagging traffic through the scene.

On Monday, Kansas 156 highway east of Jetmore between U.S. 283 and U.S. 183 (4 miles east of the Rozel area)was closed after a trailer lost an oversized load wind turbine tower section, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

As a result Hodgeman County Schools were closed Tuesday, according to a social media report from USD 227. 

Officials were forced to use a crane to remove it from under the transmission line, according to the Hodgeman County Sheriff.  Kansas 156 reopened just after 4p.m. Tuesday.
