Chiefs to Rest Mahomes in Season Finale

Posted Dec 30, 2020 7:39 PM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Chiefs announced via Twitter Wednesday that star quarterback Patrick Mahomes will sit out the team's Week 17 contest with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Chad Henne will start in place of Mahomes with the Chiefs having sole possession of the No. 1 seed in the AFC Playoffs.

With the No. 1 seed clinched, it allows Kansas City the opportunity to rest valuable players for multiple weeks prior to the team's first home playoff game in the second round of the AFC playoffs.

At this time it is unclear how many or which other players might join Mahomes in resting during Sunday's regular season finale; however, Head Coach Andy Reid will likely continue to update the media throughout the week on the situation.

Kansas City and Los Angeles will meet at 3:25 p.m. Sunday inside Arrowhead Stadium.
