Man caught attempting to take items from Kan. farm and home store

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for attempted theft.

Just after 6a.m Wednesday, a home owner in the 4200 Block NW Rochester road in rural Shawnee County called the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center reporting that a vehicle had driven through their yard behind their home, according to Sheriff's Lt. Scott Wanamaker.

The vehicle drove through the tree line behind the reporting party’s home and into a field near the west fence line to Tarwater Farm and Home Supply, 4107 NW Topeka Blvd.

A deputy was close to the area of the call and responded to Tarwater Farm and Home Supply.  The deputy observed a man  walking through the parking lot, carrying a fence T-Post. When the man saw the deputy he turned and ran. The deputy caught the man in the 4200 block NW Sproatan Lane.

The subject was detained and identified as 58 -year-old Darrell E Hunter of Topeka. After further investigation at the scene he was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections for Criminal Trespass and Attempted Theft.
