Dive team conducts river training

Members of the Geary County - Junction City dive team participated in training on the river on the north side of Junction City just off the Grant Ave. boat ramp on Wednesday. Dan Jackson, Sheriff, noted that instructors from Dive Rescue International were there to do advanced dive training for the dive team. "What they're doing here on the river, for example, would be if we had a drowning right here or if somebody threw some evidence off the bridge.

Jackson said there are two places in diving that are particularly dangerous. "One, is diving in swift water and two is diving under the ice. " A line was rigged across a bridge with a boat tied to it. "Which will be a stable dive platform and then the divers will deploy into the water from the boat. " they could then do a systematic search of  the river bottom for evidence that may have been disposed.

The dive team will train in the East Rollings Hills boat ramp area at Milford Lake on Thursday.
